What Backdrop Material is Right for You?
One of the things you may have noticed that makes Drop/A Wall stand above the competition is that we offer our beautiful backdrops in a wide variety of materials for you to choose from. But, with so many options, it can be difficult to know which one is right for you. In this post, we'll take a look at each of our backdrop materials and discuss the features of each. We'll also provide tips on how to choose the right material for your needs.
So whether you're just starting out in photography or you're looking for a way to upgrade your current images, read on for information on the best backdrops to use!
Why Use Photography Backdrops?
If you're a photographer, then you know that the right backdrop can make or break a photo. A good backdrop will complement the subject and help to create a certain mood or feeling. By contrast, a bad backdrop can be distracting and take away from the overall impact of the image. That's why it's important to take the time to choose the right photography backdrop for each shoot.
There are many different types of backdrops to choose from, ranging from simple solid colors to more elaborate scenes. Solid colors can provide a blank canvas that you can use to create any number of looks. Patterned backdrops can add interest and texture to an image. And scenic backdrops can transport your subjects to another place entirely. No matter what type of photography you're into, there's a backdrop out there that's perfect for your needs.
For this photo, we used our Standard Board Backdrop combination in Marble and Herringbone Tile.
About Drop/A Wall Backdrops
At Drop/A Wall, we believe that good things come in small packages — especially when it comes to backdrops! We specialize in small-sized backdrops that are perfect for food photographers, product photographers, content creators, and influencers. Why go big when you can go small?
For this photo, we used our Premium Board Backdrop combination in Turkish Marble and Farmhouse Wood.
These backdrops are easy to transport and set up, and they won't break the bank. Plus, our high-resolution images of surfaces such as tile, wood, marble, metal, and concrete are realistic and look authentic in photographs. So whether you're creating an Instagram-worthy flat lay or shooting a product photo, Drop/A Wall has the perfect backdrop for you.
All of our backdrops are available as Board Backdrops or as Vinyl Backdrops. Let's explore the difference between these two, and discuss when and why you might choose one over the other.
Board Backdrops
Board backdrops are our most popular backdrop option. Your choice of backdrop is printed on a durable rigid board. Choose two boards, and they can be assembled together using our custom stands to create a faux wall and surface combination. This is an extremely popular choice for food photographers, who use it to recreate a kitchen counter and backsplash.
And because board backdrops are water- and stain-resistant, it's okay to get a little messy with your photo shoot. You just wipe it clean with a damp cloth! They're lightweight and easy to store when not in use.
We offer Standard Board Backdrops in two sizes, 23"x23" and 24"x36", and Premium Board Backdrops in 23"x23". Our Standard and Premium Boards have the same amazing print quality, but the Premium Boards have added layers of material, making them more rigid than our Standard Boards.
Standard and Premium Board Backdrops have the same print quality, rounded edges, and water resistance. However, Premium Boards are more rigid than Standard Boards.
Vinyl Backdrops
If you're looking for a budget-friendly way to boost your backdrop game, vinyl is the way to go. We can print the same high-resolution, realistic images directly on a durable, curl-free vinyl with a gray backing. Our vinyl backdrops can be placed flat on a flat surface, clamped on a board or stand, or even taped to a wall. The options for use are endless. And, just like the board backdrops, our vinyl is durable, water-resistant, stain-resistant, and tear-resistant. It can be wiped clean with a damp cloth if it gets messy.
We recommend storing vinyl backdrops rolled up in their shipping tubes when not in use.
Vinyl backdrops are available in two sizes, 24"x36" and 36"x48" — but custom sizes are available by request because we do all of our own printing.
For this photo, we used our Vinyl Backdrop in Gray Positano Wall.
So, Which Backdrop Material Should I Choose?
As you can see from the example photos in this post, you can't go wrong with any of our backdrops. That said, the material you choose will largely depend on your needs and your subject matter. For example, if you want to recreate a scene that includes a wall and surface (like a kitchen counter and tile backsplash) you should opt for the Board Backdrops.
However, if you're only planning to shoot one surface, like a flat lay, then either a Board Backdrop or Vinyl Backdrop will work. In this case, you could consider how and where you will store your backdrop when you're not using it. Will it be easier to store a flat board or rolled vinyl? If budget is a concern, our Vinyl Backdrop is the most affordable option.
